Project Details

The South Cambridge Science Centre is a new three-storey bio-tech laboratory and office development with 269 multi-storey car park spaces and will add to Cambridge’s thriving technology and research sector.

The development consists of two main building volumes connected by a central core, designed to accommodate state-of -the-art laboratories, offices and meeting areas. This will be accompanied by a multi-storey car park and a new landscape that offers a serene atmosphere for work and inspiration.

OCC have been selected by main contractor Bowmer and Kirkland to deliver the groundworks package for this scheme. This includes the pad foundations and ground-bearing ground floor slab for each building, drainage and ducting for utilities and the hard landscaping towards the end of the project.

The site team have had to overcome the challenges of working in soft chalk, working closely with the main contractor and their design team to find solutions and push the project forward.

The building drainage was formed of Vulcathene pipework with fusion welded joints and bends to provide chemical resistance to the waste from the laboratories.

The project is ongoing and due for completion by early 2025.
