Bells Gardens Estate

Bells Gardens Estate is part of the Southwark New Homes programme. The project will deliver 127 new homes, a new community centre and a public park in the heart of Peckham.

The first stage of the project was to provide a new, temporary community centre and play park so the existing one could be demolished, making way for the main works. OCC were contracted to carry out the enabling works on behalf of principal contractor Durkan Ltd which included:

• an earthworks cut and fill exercise to shape the site to formation levels
• concrete foundations for the new temporary community centre
• new drainage including a new manhole built on top of a live Thames Water sewer
• provisions for new utilities including power, water and BT ducting
• external works for new community centre including paving, lamp posts & cycle hoops
• Multi-Use Games pitch including a 3m high RC wall with targets on one side and climbing handles on the other
• rubber crumb safety play surface with mounds
